About This Dynamic Scoliosis Brace

The Spine Cor brace is a flexible, elastic brace that was developed by a team of orthopedic scoliosis specialists headed by Orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Charles Hilaire Rivard and Dr. Christine Coillard, at St. Justine’s Hospital in Montreal initially for the treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Unlike a traditional rigid scoliosis braces that are comprised of a hard plastic jacket which restricts movement, the Spine Cor brace is made of elastic band components that provide gentle corrective forces to the body. Because the bands are designed to stretch as the body bends, this dynamic tension brace actually encourages movement. By eliminating problems associated with hard bracing (ie: muscle atrophy related to immobilization of the spine, diminished body awareness and subsequent lack of muscle control) Dr. Rivard and Dr. Coillard had created a way of not only stopping the progression of scoliosis curvatures but even providing correction in many cases.

The fundamental shift in thinking between the rigid brace and a dynamic brace is that with the dynamic brace is using a more natural approach that allows the spine to help correct itself with corrective movements. This is a vast departure from the old antiquated way of the rigid brace three point pressure system that places an outside force on the body and immobilizes the spine much like a body cast.

For most children rigid bracing is too difficult to endure so the compliance rate is often very low. That is why many doctors delay bracing for scoliosis until curvatures progress past 25 degrees. Because the Spine Cor brace is far easier to wear, doctors can intervene at an earlier stage, when the problem is most correctable.

Unlike hard bracing, the innovative Spine Cor scoliosis brace allows for treatment without interfering your normal activities, allowing a full range of activities while gently working to correct the scoliosis curvatures. This vastly improves the quality of life as you can discretely treat your scoliosis symptoms while you continue to live without an obtrusive or embarrassing hard brace shell, as the soft Spine Cor scoliosis brace is comfortably hidden under your cloths. This results in increase treatment compliance, providing better long term outcomes.

Although the Spine Cor brace was initially developed for adolescents, Dr. Gary Deutchman and Dr. Marc Lamantia helped pioneer its use for adult patients, helping them relieve their scoliosis symptoms.

The flexibility of the dynamic brace and its ability to be easily concealed by clothing is more easily accepted by patients. They can play with their friends without being perceived as being different, something that is very important in the psyche of an adolescent. Spine Cor is designed to meet the needs of human body that must continually move to stay active and healthy.

So don’t just “watch and waiting” for the curvatures to progress and worsen, act now early when it is most correctable. The earlier treatment is started the better the chances for correction.
